The owners of this 1880’s “village colonial” wished to expand and renew it, and address its limitations. A range of design options was explored within the constraints of lot size and budget, and a zoning variance was obtained for an addition to the rear. The work included removing an older addition to the home and incorporating that volume in the new 2-1/2-story addition.
The addition features a new kitchen and family room, offering a more open and expansive living space while respecting the scale and character of the existing house. Also included in the scope of work was a new master bath and dressing room on the second floor, and a new “treetop” space on the third floor. New finishes and lighting were installed throughout the house, as well as new windows, HVAC, roofing, and siding.
